Major medical meets the requirements of the Affordable Care Act and covers 10 essential health benefits. Typically, it has a deductible, coinsurance, and a maximum out of pocket limit. Major medical insurance is the most comprehensive form of health insurance and is available through employers or the Affordable Care Act marketplace. Most major medical can only be applied for during Open Enrollment each year, new employer or with a Special Enrollment Period with a qualifying life event. We do however have 2 insurance carriers that allow applications throughout the year without a SEP.
